Former teacher's aide acquitted in sex abuse casePosted: Updated:
MESA -- A jury has ruled a former Mesa Westwood High School teacher's aide is not guilty in a sexual abuse case.
Kyle Hite had been charged with three counts of sexual abuse for allegedly fondling a student.
Mesa police arrested Hite in May of 2007.
Police said Hite had admitted touching a 16-year-old student's breast, saying he thought the victim found him attractive.
The allegations prompted the Mesa Unified School District to revise its criminal background checks.
An internal investigation found Hite had had "prior police involvement" from another state that had gone unnoticed when he was hired.
The district now has more than one person review the records of new hires.
Hite's contract expired days after the arrest.
The district says Hite he did not return to the classroom.
