Arizona's jobless rate reached 8.7 percent in JunePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Unemployment in Arizona rose a half percentage point during June, bringing the state's jobless rate up to 8.7 percent.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remains below June's national average of 9.5 percent.
The state Commerce Department announced the latest numbers on Thursday.
Arizona lost nearly 50,000 non-farm jobs and experienced job losses in several industries such as manufacturing, business services, government and leisure and hospitality.
The construction industry was among four economic sectors that gained jobs in June.
The 2,400 positions added in construction during the month ended the industry's 21-month streak of job losses.
