Violent crash sends family of four to hospital

TEMPE - Four people have been injured in a violent two vehicle accident near Kyrene and Elliot.

Police report that the driver of a white car was making a right hand turn when the driver of a blue Ford Runner smashed into him.

Police say the passenger side received a direct hit.

Two grandparents and their two grandchildren were inside the car.

Crews rushed the 68-year-old grandmother and her 11-year-old grandson to the Maricopa County Hospital.

Police say the young boy's leg was pinned underneath the wreckage after the crash, and a rescue team had to extract the boy from the car.

The grandfather and his 7-year-old grandson were also injured but not as seriously.
