Prison in Kingman area to be expandedPosted: Updated:
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) -- A privately run prison in the Kingman area for medium- and minimum-security inmates is going to more than double in size.
The recent issuance of $206 million in revenue bonds made the expansion possible at Arizona State Prison-Kingman in Golden Valley.
Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson said in a prepared statement that the project will provide an economic boost for the county at a time when Arizona and the nation are struggling financially.
The prison has 1,400 beds. It will have 3,400 after the expansion.
The prison primarily houses substance abuse offenders.
