MESA -- Riding a bus or light-rail train in the Phoenix metropolitan area will cost a little more starting Wednesday.

Valley Metro, the region's mass transit agency, is raising the price of a one-way ticket by 50 cents to $1.75.
An all-day pass, probably the most common fare purchased by commuters, will be $3.50.
It's the first increase in Valley Metro's base fare since 1994.
Another significant change effective Wednesday is that fare machines aboard buses now will accept $5 bills.
