Police search for van driver who hit elderly man on scooterPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Phoenix police officers are searching for a van driver who hit a man riding an electric scooter Saturday morning.
According to police, a person driving a white conversion van was exiting a private drive near 38th Avenue and Indian School Road Saturday at 11:45 a.m. when the vehicle hit an 89-year-old man riding a red electric scooter on the sidewalk.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the man hit the ground and suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Thompson said the van left eastbound at a high rate of speed and turned southbound onto 38th Avenue.
According to Thompson, the suspect vehicle should have frontal damage and possibly red paint on it.
