Woman sentenced after stealing from church
CHANDLER - A Chandler woman will spend five years behind bars for stealing almost half a million dollars from a Valley church.
Brenda Sue Carroll-Nesper, 47, was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections for embezzling $495,000 from the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church while she was the office manager and accountant from January 2006 to June 2007.
Carroll-Nesper was arrested in August of 2007. Police searched her home and found over $100,000 in cash, as well as money orders, travelers checks and gift cards. Authorities also found and seized several cars and jewelry.
Carroll-Nesper pleaded guilty to three counts of theft.
In addition to five years in prison, Carroll-Nesper will be on probation for three years and was ordered to pay almost $495,000 in restitution.
