4 Men take $1,800 in merchandise during armed robbery

The following news release was sent by the Surprise Police Dept.:

SURPRISE - On Sunday, February 8, 2009 at approximately 1:00 A.M. police responded to a call of an armed robbery at the Valero Corner Store located at 16794 W. Bell Road, Surprise, AZ.

Upon their arrival, police were advised by the male clerk that as he was in the cooler restocking merchandise, four, Hispanic male subjects entered the store from the west. All four subjects were wearing either a baseball style cap or a hooded sweatshirt in an attempt to conceal their identity. Once inside, one of the male subjects, who appeared to have been orchestrating the movements of the other three subjects, confronted the male clerk as he exited the coolers, brandished a black firearm and demanded the clerk to open the register. After removing approximately $80.00 in cash, the subject then forced the clerk to lay face down on the ground behind the counter while the other subjects removed approximately $1,800 in merchandise to include beer and cigarettes. The subjects then fled the store in a westbound direction.

The clerk was uninjured during this incident and there were no other patrons in the business or witness' to this crime. All four subjects were captured on video taped surveillance.
