Light Rail to stop running before last callPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The operating hours of the new Valley Metro Light Rail trains have many people, including bar owners, patrons and members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving a bit confused.
While many thought the trains would run all night -- or at least into the early morning hours -- the last runs will be at 11 p.m., which is three hours before last call.
Many are wondering why that decision was made, especially considering the emphasis that state has placed on targeting drunk drivers.
According to Light Rail officials, the train schedule was set up to coordinate with the bus schedule, as well as forecasts of peak ridership.
Depending on how many people ride the trains late at night, Valley Metro said it might consider expanding operating hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
The long-awaited Light Rail is scheduled to open to passengers this Saturday.
