Arizona Parks Board weighs response to budget cutsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- With three state parks already closed temporarily, the Parks Board meets Friday afternoon to consider more park closings, staff layoffs, grant cancellations and other steps to cope with budget cuts.
Other options that could be considered include seasonal closing of parks, reduced hours of operation and worker furloughs.
The three parks already closed temporarily were chosen primarily because they have deteriorating buildings considered to be unsafe. The parks system has reassigned some workers from those facilities to fill vacancies at other parks.
A bill to divert funding to the parks system is stalled in the Legislature because of legal concerns.
