Saints beat Cardinals in preseason openerPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE -- It was just the preseason opener but the Arizona Cardinals showed they still need a lot of work.
The Cardinals were the most penalized team in the NFL last season with 137.
They were penalized eight times for 70 yards in last night's 24-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans took the opening kickoff and went 80 yards in 13 plays with Drew Brees lofting a 7-yard TD toss over the middle to David Patten for the score.
Arizona took a 10-7 lead on rookie Tim Hightower's 1-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter and Neil Rackers' 30-yard field goal 6:38 before halftime.
But the Saints' reserves outscored their Cardinals counterparts 17-0 in the second half.
Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart completed eight of nine passes for 91 yards in the first two series of the game.
Kurt Warner did not play and the Cardinals went with third-string quarterback Brian St. Pierre and rookie Anthony Morelli.
