Students, teachers fight back

PHOENIX -- Their message loud and clear.

"Save our school, save our state!"

Well over a thousand students and faculty from ASU, U of A, and NAU rallied outside the state capitol Wednesday afternoon to voice their outrage against possible budget cuts to the state's university system.

The legisature is proposing nearly $130 million dollars in cuts, which according to the presidents of all three universities would be a devastating blow that would result in layoffs, increased tuition, and larger classes due to less teachers.

But some key Republican legislators have said the cuts are necessary to help deal with the state's $1.6 billion dollar deficit.

While students and teachers say they understand the current economic situation, they feel the state shouldn't be fixing its budget problems at their expense.
