Sewer line collapse closes Central and Washington in downtown PhoenixPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Repairs on a collapsed sewer line at Central Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Phoenix sparked traffic diversions with will likely last into Thursday.
Crews are on the scene doing emergency repair work and hope to have the intersection back open by 10 a.m. Thursday.
Central Avenue is closed at Jefferson Street. Drivers are being diverted east on Jefferson.
Washington Street is closed at Central Avenue. Westbound traffic is down to a single lane at Second Street. From there, traffic is being diverted north on Central Avenue.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area if at all possible.
Tip: To travel northbound, use 7th or 3rd avenues if you are coming from the west, or use 5th or 7th streets if you are coming from the east. To travel east or westbound, use Fillmore, Jackson or Lincoln streets.
