Man uses tractor to steal ATM cash
MESA - Police say a suspect used a backhoe to steal cash from an ATM at a Mesa Walgreens Thursday morning.
Police officers were called to the Walgreens at Power and Thomas roads at 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
Detective Michael Melendez said officers found the front door broken and the ATM on the front sidewalk with the cash box missing.
A backhoe tractor was found in the parking lot next to the store.
Video surveillance showed the backhoe being backed up to the door. The operator then used the backhoe to break through the glass door and drag the ATM out of the building.
Melendez said the backhoe was used to break the ATM until the cash box was separated from the machine.
The tractor was then driven out of the area.
There is no suspect description at this time.
