Sun Devils prepare for StanfordPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The Sun Devils may need a more balanced attack when they face Stanford in the Pac-10 opener for both teams Saturday night in Tempe.
The Sun Devils missed senior tailback Keegan Herring out with a hamstring injury. He may miss this week too.
Against Stanford, the Sun Devils may have to rely on quarterback Rudy Carpenter. Against NAU, Carpenter completed 22-of-28 passes for 388 yards and a touchdown, and he tied a school record with 13 straight completions.
Carpenter says he's becoming more comfortable after one season in Dennis Erickson's offense.
Stanford will provide a much tougher test for the Sun Devils.
The Cardinal opened with a victory over Oregon State in Palo Alto, and they're much improved under second-year coach Jim Harbaugh.
