Man shot after allegedly attacking 2 with 'blunt force object'

GLENDALE - One person is dead following a shooting on Friday night in Glendale.

Police tell 3TV 46-year-old Rodney Cox, Sr. died Saturday morning as a result of his injuries sustained in the shooting near 61st Ave. and Greenway.

Police responded to a residence in the area where a physical fight had taken place outside a house that involved Cox using a blunt force object to reportedly strike two people. One of the individuals who was struck allegedly drew a handgun and shot Cox in the chest.

A 26-year-old man who was hit with the object was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but has since been released. Another 33-year-old man who was struck was not transported to the hospital and was questioned by police about the incident.

Investigators are trying to determine how the parties involved knew each other. No arrests have been made but the Maricopa County Attorney's Office will review the incident and determine if the person who fired the handgun will face any charges.
