Water main break closes Mesa intersection; residents without waterPosted: Updated:
MESA -- A Mesa intersection that was closed for approximately three hours Tuesday has reopened, but traffic is restricted.
According to Mesa spokesman Ian Satter, traffic will be restricted on 81st Street between Akron and Boise streets until Wednesday afternoon because of street damage caused by the water main break. The previously closed intersection of Main and 81st streets is open to traffic.
Satter said the 6-inch water line located under the intersection of Akron and 81st streets broke at approximately 9 a.m., sending water into the Main and 81st streets intersection.
The water line has been closed and lines are currently being rerouted to return service to nearly 300 customers.
Satter said customers in the area of 80th Street east to Hawes Road and Main Street north to University Drive are currently without water service, but the city expects to return service after 2 p.m.
Until repairs are complete, detours are in effect and drivers are advised to use alternative routes.
