Stolen SUV with baby in back seat found, suspect on the loosePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Police have recovered a stolen SUV with an 18-month-old inside, but the suspect is still at large.
It all happened shortly before 8:30 a.m., in the area of 27th Avenue and Carefree Highway, said Officer Jonathan Howard of the Phoenix Police Department.
Natalie Hartman-Hill was dropping her children off at day care. When she went into the day-care center, she left her 18-month-old son in her running vehicle in the parking lot.
Police say she returned to the vehicle less than 30 seconds later and saw it being driven out of the parking lot and westbound onto Carefree Highway.
A witness said that as soon as the mother left the car, the suspect got in and drove it away.
Officers located the black 2008 BMW X5 abandoned in the roadway at 32000 N. 24th Drive a short time later and found the child still in his car seat unharmed.
The child has been reunited with his mother.
The suspect is still at large. He is described as a white male, approximately 30 years old, 6 feet tall with a medium build and a brown goatee. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
