Pickup truck rear-ends school bus near QuartzsitePosted: Updated:
QUARTZSITE -- A school bus and a pickup truck traveling on U.S. 60 east of Quartzsite collided early Monday morning.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a school bus was stopped on the eastbound lane of the highway with lights flashing and stop sign activated in the process of loading children onto the bus when a Toyota pickup truck rear-ended the bus.
The driver of the pickup was a contract carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and was not driving in a marked mail truck.
A total of 12 children were on the bus from the Salome School District, plus one bus driver.
Some of the children were injured, but all were treated and released at the scene.
The driver of the pickup was transported by medical helicopter to a Valley hospital.
An investigation into the accident is under way.
