A Glendale man was killed last night when the vehicle he was riding in collided with a sign during a single vehicle collision.The collision took place in the 4500 block of west Bethany Home Road.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday night (10/5), four immigrants from Africa were traveling west bound on Bethany Home Road.At 45th Avenue, the vehicle drove onto the raised concrete median that separates the frontage road from the main roadway.The vehicle struck a sign mounted on a post, causing damage to the vehicle and fatal injury to the front seat passenger.Investigators are looking into reports that the victim was not properly seated, nor wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
The driver is a 22 year-old black male.His driving actions and possible impairment by drugs or alcohol are being investigated.He has not been arrested and tests results are not available at this time.The victim had been identified as Patrick Ndayiziga (b/m 21 yrs.) of Glendale.
The west bound lanes of Bethany Home Road are closed between 43rd and 47th Avenues, but investigators expect to have the roadway re-opened in time for morning rush hour.
