The following is a press release from the Tempe Police Department:
Tempe police arrested a suspect Thursday night who is believed to have robbed the same SRP payment center on two different occasions. His girlfriend was also arrested in connection with the most recent robbery.
Sterling Foster Adams, 24 (DOB: 5/19/84), of Mesa, was booked into Tempe City Jail on two counts of Armed Robbery and his girlfriend Sara Shannon Parker, 23 (DOB: 8/28/85), of Mesa was booked on one count of Armed Robbery.
Investigation revealed that Adams committed an armed robbery at the SRP payment center, 1521 N. Project Drive on Dec. 1, 2008 and then again on Thursday (Jan. 15) at approximately 6:50 p.m.
In the most recent incident, Parker drove a separate car to the building and went inside to see how many people were there. Parker then left the building and called Adams to tell him what she saw. Afterwards, Adams put on a fake beard and disguise and entered the business. He displayed a handgun, demanded money from the clerks and fled the scene with cash.
Adams and Parker then met up and quickly spent the stolen money to pay off debts and buy heroin.
Tempe Police officers who responded to the scene immediately recognized the suspect and his vehicle as being involved in a prior robbery. Patrol officers, Criminal Investigations Detectives and the Tempe Police ACTION team worked together to swiftly arrest the pair within hours of the crime. They were taken into custody without incident.
