Firefighters rescue teen trapped inside burning apartment

PHOENIX -- Phoenix firefighters rescued a teen from an apartment fire at 17th and Missouri avenues late Wednesday morning.

Capt. Joey Felipe said when crews got to the second-floor apartment, there were flames in the front room and smoke detectors were going off.

Felipe said a 14-year-old girl was trapped inside a bedroom, but firefighters were able to get her out.

She suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a Valley hospital. There is no word yet on any other injuries she may have suffered.

There's extensive smoke damage inside the apartment.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
