Sedona couple indicted on tax evasion chargesPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The U.S. attorney's office in Phoenix says a Sedona couple who operated a drug and alcohol treatment center have been indicted on tax evasion charges.
Dr. William Howard Steiniger and his wife, Diane Goulder Steiniger, are each charged with one count of conspiracy and four counts of tax evasion.
The couple operated Desert Canyon Treatment Center in Sedona, but the center's Web site says it has closed "due to economic conditions." A message seeking comment from the Steinigers wasn't immediately returned.
According to information released by the U.S. attorney on Tuesday, for at least 10 years the couple funneled their "substantial" incomes into companies they created and didn't pay taxes.
William Steiniger is 64 and his wife is 51. They are free on $100,000 bond after making a court appearance on Friday.
