Chase Bank in Mesa receives powder-laced letterPosted: Updated:
MESA -- A Chase Bank branch in Mesa was evacuated Tuesday after a letter containing white powder was found.
Postal Inspector Patricia Armstrong says an employee notified authorities and the bank, near the intersection of McKellips and Recker roads, was evacuated.
No one was injured. The bank reopened a few hours later.
Armstrong says the mailing fits the same profile as other letters that were sent to Chase Banks around the country. The letter is postmarked from Amarillo, Texas and was mailed on or about the same day.
A Chase spokeswoman says this is the 10th Arizona branch to receive a letter. The company has been working closely with federal authorities.
More than 50 powder-laced letters have been sent to banks in a dozen cities around the country.
