The following is a press release from the Prescott Police Department: On October 15, 2008 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Prescott Police Officers responded to a motel on east Sheldon Street in reference to an assault. When the officers arrived, they located Ronald K. Banks, age 45, in one of the rooms. It was obvious to the officers he had been assaulted. One of his eyes was swollen shut and he had several large bumps on the rest of his head and face.
Mr. Banks stated that the man who assaulted him used brass knuckles and repeatedly struck him on the head and face. The officers learned that the suspect had fled on foot just prior to their arrival. The backup officers responding to the scene immediately began searching the area and they located a man who matched the suspect's description. He was identified as Luis Alonso Lopez, age 31. Mr. Lopez was only a few blocks from the motel when he was contacted.
The victim and witnesses told police that Mr. Lopez was the person who assaulted Mr. Banks. Mr. Lopez said that he was at the motel at the time of the assault however; he denied using brass knuckles on Mr. Banks.
Ronald Banks was treated at the scene by Prescott Fire but he refused to go to the hospital.
Luis Alonso Lopez was arrested for Aggravated Assault and booked into Yavapai County Jail. The brass knuckles were not located.
