2 Killed in motorcycle wreck on Carefree Highway

PHOENIX -- Two people were killed in a motorcycle wreck on the Carefree Highway Saturday morning.

Motorcycle, car collided

It happened at about 10 a.m. near 16th Street.

Two people in their late 40s -- a man and a woman -- were riding on a motorcycle when it collided with a car.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman, Deputy Lindsey Smith says the car made an illegal u-turn in front of the motorcycle.

The victims have been identified as Margaret Villa and Ramon Villa, who would have turned 50 this December.

Margaret Villa was pronounced dead at the scene. Ramon, who was riding with her, was flown to John C. Lincoln Hospital North Mountain, where he later died.

Both victims were wearing helmets when they crashed.

The 85-year-old woman who was driving the car refused treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.
