PHOENIX - The following is a release from the Phoenix Police Department:
On 10/20/08, at approximately 5:42 p.m., officers responded to an emergency call of a shooting in the 5600 block of S. 15th Ave. Upon arrival, they found a victim, a Hispanic male, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.The man said he had recently come from Mexico and was shot by another Hispanic male after refusing to pay additional money for being brought into the country.The victim stated that at least ten more people had been with him at the time of the shooting; however, they had all fled the area.
Officers searched for other victims, witnesses, and suspects but were unable to locate any at this time.
Officers conducted a search warrant of a residence in the area and found evidence of a human smuggling operation.
The victim is expected to survive his injuries.
