Valley gun dealer's trial begins todayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The trial of Valley gun dealer with alleged ties to Mexican drug cartels gets under way today.
According to prosecutors, George Iknadosian, 47, sold more than 700 "weapons of choice," including AK-47s, knowing that they were being purchased on behalf of drug syndicates in Mexico.
Mexican police records showed that guns from Iknadosian's Phoenix store were used in a fire fight between gangsters and police. Eight federal officers were killed in that gun battle.
Iknadosian is charged with forgery, fraud, money laundering and operating a criminal syndicate. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.
Several co-defendants in the case have pleaded guilty and are cooperating with prosecutors.
