Teacher charged for lesbian relationship with teenager

UPDATE 11/21: The following is a press release from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office:

County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced today that Gilbert resident and middle school teacher Elizabeth Claire Livesay, 26 (DOB 9/2/82), has been accused of eight counts of Sexual Conduct with a Minor, class six felonies, in a November 19, 2008 direct complaint.

The charges are a result of alleged sexual contact with a sixteen year old female victim.

The alleged criminal acts were reported to have occurred at the defendant's home between June 2008 and August 2008, according to a Gilbert Police probable cause statement.

Livesay was arrested on November 17, 2008. Livesay is a teacher at Carson Junior High School in Mesa. The victim is not a student there.

The probable cause statement says Livesay met the alleged victim at church.

Deputy County Attorney John F. Beatty is prosecuting the case.

Thomas stated, "We thank the Gilbert Police Department for investigating this case and we thank the family of the victim for having the courage to come forward."

GILBERT - Charged with educating young minds a Valley teacher is now facing numerous charges for allegedly have sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl.

It's a story that certainly has some parents concerned.

The Mesa Public Schools District sent it home with elementary, middle and high school students informing them of a Carson Junior High School teacher's arrest.

The teacher is 26-year-old Elizabeth Livesay, a special education teacher at Carson Junior High.

The district had this response to the charges.

"People make poor choices, even if they're good school employees."

The district followed state law when it hired Livesay.

Initial appearance paperwork reveals Gilbert Police arrested her yesterday afterschool upon hearing from a counselor who said Livesay disclosed that she had a consensual sexual relationship with a 16-year-old at her Gilbert condo during the summer months.

She's been booked on 11 counts.

The alleged victim was never a student at Carson Junior High and was never a student of Livesay, but she had been an alleged mentor.

That fact has some parents feeling even more upset, regarding her alleged actions.

Livesay is being electronically monitored at her home, she is on paid leave from the districtpending the outcome of this investigation.
