SCOTTSDALE -- One Valley city is turning down its share of the federal stimulus money.

The Scottsdale City Council voted to decline more than $224,000 headed its way for public-safety improvements.

Council members said the federal money would burden future city budgets.

They also said they were worried the city would be accepting the money just for the sake of spending it.

Scottsdale is one of the first Valley cities to turn down federal stimulus money.

The city, however, will accept other money for law enforcement projects and positions.
