PHOENIX -- Police have roped off several North Phoenix businesses and are searching for the suspect in a fatal early morning stabbing.

It happened shortly after midnight Thursday at a strip mall in the area of Cave Creek and Hatcher roads.

According to Officer Luis Samudio of the Phoenix Police Department, two males got into an argument in the Hatcher Village Complex. One of them pulled a knife and stabbed the other.

The victim reportedly managed to grab that knife and stabbed the suspect. Both left the scene.

The victim made it to his apartment complex, which is right behind the strip mall, where he died in the manager's arms.

Neighbors tell 3TV that the victim was a 23-year-old man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"He was a real nice guy," said neighbor Sandra Ponce. "He was friendly. He was always with his son."

The suspect is believed to be a 16-year-old. He is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 1 inch tall, 95 pounds, wearing brown pants and a white football jersey.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department.
