Fatal wreck heeds warnings from DPS

MESA - Crews were on the scene of a deadly car crash on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near the Gilbert Road exit.

Harold Sanders with the Department of Public Safety said between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Friday, an SUV was on the extreme right side of the westbound lanes of the Loop 202 near Gilbert Road.

A tow truck pulled up behind the SUV and had helped changed the tire.

A large truck pulling heavy equipment veered into the tow truck and the SUV, killing the driver of the AAA tow truck and the driver of the SUV.

The driver of the heavy equipment truck, Albert Lorona, a resident of Yuma, is still in the hospital.

The driver of the SUV has been identified as Jean Bunch, 56, and a resident of Mesa.

Gilbert resident Jesse Gault, 44, was the driver of the AAA tow truck.

The highway has been cleared, but the investigation is continuing to determine what caused the loss of control by the driver.
