Maricopa family is homeless after attic firePosted: Updated:
MARICOPA -- A family is homeless after a fire at their Maricopa home Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, fire crews responded to a reported attic fire in a single-story home in the 43000 block of Lindgren Drive.
Maricopa Fire Department spokesman Brad Pitassi said police officers helped evacuate the home before firefighters arrived.
The first fire crews on-scene found parts of the roof collapsing and heavy, black smoke blowing from under the roof.
Firefighters were able to protect neighboring homes from the fire.
It took fire crews from Maricopa, Gila River, Sun Lakes and Chandler to extinguish the blaze.
Pitassi said no one was injured, but the home is considered a total loss.
The Sun Lakes Firefighters Union provided the family with a three-night stay at a nearby hotel.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
