Phoenix police make arrest in fatal hit-and-runPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix police are holding a man after a fatal hit-and-run accident Monday morning claimed the life of an elderly woman.
Police investigators say 57-year-old Ronald Grotjan was south bound on 51st Avenue near Cactus Road when he failed to stop for a red light and collided with a 1998 Honda Civic driven by a 69-year-old woman.
A passenger in the Civic, identified as 83-year-old Frances Eggen, was taken to a local hospital but later died.
Police say Grotjan tried to flee the scene after the accident. Witnesses stopped him and kept him from leaving until police arrived.
Grotjan was booked for manslaughter, endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident.
