Student dies after parachuting accident in YumaPosted: Updated:
YUMA, Ariz. (AP) -- The Military Freefall School at the Yuma Proving Ground has suspended all air operations until further notice after a student died in a parachuting accident.
Army officials say the student was attending the Military Freefall Jumpmaster course and injured his head while landing early Thursday.
They say the man was airlifted to St. Josephs Hospital in Phoenix, where he was pronounced dead.
The name of the serviceman and other background information was not immediately released.
Army safety investigators have started an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
The Military Freefall School is part of the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School and is a joint forces training school covering all aspects of military freefall parachuting.
