Clerk, others charged in merchandise theft at Mesa Mervyn'sPosted: Updated:
MESA -- A store clerk is accused of helping several people take merchandise from a Mesa Mervyn's without paying.
Police say Loss Prevention at the Mervyn's store at 1240 E. Main St. observed several people taking numerous items of merchandise without paying Sunday afternoon.
Police say a Mervyn's employee was assisting the suspects in the theft.
On more than one occasion, the suspects brought numerous items to the register but only paid a few dollars for the merchandise.
The 16-year-old clerk took between $15 and $25 for each transaction and in one case took no money at all.
Three adults and three juveniles were charged and more than $5,000 worth of merchandise was recovered.
Police say another two suspects are still outstanding along with approximately $2,300 in merchandise.
