The company, which already has five stores and a restaurant in Phoenix, is opening another store at Stapley Drive and Southern Avenue. Because of that, Pro's Ranch Market is hosting a job fair to fill 400 positions.

People hoping to land one of those jobs started lining up early Thursday morning for the first day of the fair.

"I figured there would be a lot of people here," said Duncan Richardson, one the many job seekers who turned out for the event. "Unemployment is high right now. There's a limited amount of jobs. I've been unemployed for going on seven months. I need work."

Scott Tomlinson, who has been out of work for about a month, feels the same.

"With the way things are going right now, I'm open to anything," he said. "I see a lot of opportunity here. I want to take advantage of it. We're all here, hoping for the same thing."

With so many companies cutting backing and laying off employees, it's somewhat rare to find a business that's expanding.

"We are a growing company," said Tina Huff of Pro's Ranch Market. "We have a lot of activity going on within our growth, so we made the decision that we will continue that path because it truly it the path of the future for us and we're thrilled to provide these stores for the community."

There are positions in every department from the tortilleria to cashiering to customer service.

Applicants should be sure to bring their resumes and employment histories.

More than 1,000 people have already applied for those 400 positions, and Pro's Ranch Market is expecting another 1,000 people to come out for the fair today. It's from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the store's parking lot.
