Weather postpones evaluation of 8-year-old boyPosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- A mental health and competency evaluation of an 8-year-old boy charged in the deaths of his father and another man has been rescheduled.
Defense attorney Benjamin Brewer says bad weather forced the cancellation of a state expert's evaluation of the boy set for Wednesday.
Apache County Superior Court administrator Betty Smith says the evaluation has been rescheduled for Monday. A status conference in the case is also set for Monday in St. Johns.
An expert for the defense has already conducted an evaluation of the boy. Judge Michael Roca has put the case on hold until the evaluations are complete.
The prosecution and defense have objected to a stay in the proceedings. Brewer says he is hopeful the issue will be resolved Monday.
