Arizona behind average for teachers' salaries

PHOENIX - Arizona schools are spending the least amount of money on teachers' salaries in eight years. A new report from a state auditor says on average, Arizona school districts are behind the national average when it comes to spending on things like teacher salaries, study guides, and other classroom needs.

This past school year the amount of money dedicated to those areas hit an eight-year low.

According to the report, schools are instead spending more money on special services like occupational therapy.

The auditor added that some school districts are illegally replacing regular classroom money with special fund money.
