Grind-it-out style gives Cardinals rare road winPosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- The Arizona Cardinals collected their first season-opening road victory in nine years.
Arizona clinched it in San Francisco with an 18-play, 62-yard drive that used up 10:08 in the fourth quarter Sunday. It ended with Neil Rackers' 30-yard field goal that put the Cardinals ahead 23-13 with 1:57 to play.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt calls it a "very satisfying" win.
Arizona came out in the third quarter in a no-huddle offense, with Kurt Warner throwing passes on nine of the Cardinals' first 10 plays.
Arizona had a remarkable 22:38 to 7:22 possession time advantage in the second half.
The only team in the NFC West to win its first game, Arizona is home against Miami on Sunday.
