QUEEN CREEK -- Arson is suspected in a fire that destroyed six homes under construction in an unicorporated area outside the town limits of Queen Creek.
Charred wood and scorched earth are all that remain at the building site near Ocotillo Road and Ironwood Drive.
According to Rural Metro Fire Department, the homes started burning at about the same time -- 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters decided to let the frame structures burn rather than use water and other resources to control them.
There's no electricity at the site, which is one reason investigators believe the fire was started deliberately.
No injuries were reported.
The construction site apparently had been abandoned by the developer more than a year ago and is now bank-owned.
Arson investigators are on the scene and they are expected to bring in an arson dog.
