Monsoon reduces wildfire riskPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The monsoon has minimized the risk of wildfires in the state.
Mid-July is usually the peak time for wildfires in Arizona. However, the monsoon rains, humidity and snowpack have helped reduce the risk.
That's allowed at least six of the state's national forests to lift all campfire and smoking restrictions.
In the Coconino National Forest in Northern Arizona, the risk has dropped so much that officials have lowered the fire danger level to moderate.
