Harassment leads man to stab roommate's brother-in-lawPosted: Updated:
SURPRISE - The following is a press release from the Surprise Police Department:
On May 24, 2009 at approximately 8:52 pm, Officers responded to the area of 15600 West Ocotillo Lane, Surprise AZ, reference a stabbing.The victim, a 28 year old Surprise resident, stated that he, his brother in law and some friends had returned home from a day at the lake and he fell asleep on a couch.He then told police that he awoke to find the roommate of his brother in law, 27 year old Matthew Rognholt, straddling him with a chef's knife in his hand.While attempting to fight off the attack, the victim received a severe cut to his face.The two separated and the victim ran out of the home to get help.
Police were summoned to the home by neighbors. Once on scene, police contacted the suspect Matthew Rognholt, and transported him to a local hospital for treatment of cuts on his hands. The victim was also transported for treatment of his facial wound.
Matthew Rognholt was later released from the hospital and transported to the Surprise Police Department for questioning.Rognholt told police that he attacked the victim because the victim and his friends were belittling and harassing him all day at the lake and that "he had had enough".Rognholt was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (felony.)
