Teen girl dead after suspects open fire on truckPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by Phoenix Police's Silent Witness division for information leading to an arrest in the death of a teen girl.
Melissa Vigil, 16, was shot just before 2 a.m. on October 7 in the 5600 block of s. Vista Grande.
Police say Melissa's friend missed a turn and was backing into a roadway when an unknown suspect, identified as a black male, fired several times into the truck where Melissa was traveling. She was taken to the hospital where she died.
If you have information that may help solve this crime, you must contact Silent Witness before an arrest is made in order to be eligible for the reward.
PHOENIX - A 16-year-old girl is dead following an early morning shooting in a South Phoenix neighborhood.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday, several people ran into the South Mountain Precinct saying someone with them had been shot.
When officers ran outside, they found the 16-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the head.
They began CPR and called for paramedics. She was transported to the hospital.
The victim has been identified as Melissa Vigil. She attended Cesar Chavez High School.
During the treatment of the patient, several calls came in from the area in the 2200 block of West Hidalgo.
Police learned that was the area where the teens were when Melissa was shot.
According to police the teens were at a party earlier in the evening and were dropping off friends in the area.
The driver had to back up after missing a turn when several black males came out of a house and started shooting at the truck using AK-47s, a 9mm and a .45, leaving the street riddled with bullets.
Melissa was shot while riding in the back of the truck.
The investigation is ongoing and police are trying to locate the suspects.
