Officer-involved shooting kills 20 y.o. suspect

Officer feared for life

GLENDALE -- UPDATE: Police say that the victim is 20 year-old David Soto Jr.

The following is a press release from the Glendale Police Dept.:

(Tuesday) Glendale Police officers responded to a burglary in progress call at 6702 N. 60th Avenue.

The home owner attempted to open her door when it was immediately pulled shut.

The home owner then looked into a window and saw a Hispanic male inside who she did not recognize.

She called 911 and went into her car for safety. As patrol units arrived on scene, a description of a male, approximately 5'10" weighing around 210 pounds with a grey shirt was given out for responding units to be on the lookout for.

Officers in an unmarked police vehicle came upon a subject, matching the description, on Maryland Avenue just East of 61st Drive.

An officer exited the car in an attempt to talk to the subject but he ran. The officer chased the subject on foot while the officer in the car followed, pulling into the driveway of 6547 N. 61 Drive where the subject produced a weapon.

The officer in fear for his life defended himself and shot the subject.

The subject, an adult male, was transported to Saint Josephs Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The suspect's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The identity of the officer involved will be released at a later date. The officer has been with the Glendale Police Department for 3 years.
