ORIGINAL REPORT:

GILBERT -- A Gilbert police officer is recovering Sunday morning after being involved in a collision.

The DUI motorcycle officer was headed southbound on Lindsay near Warner when an 18-year-old woman was making a left turn from a side street and apparently did not see the officer.

The two collided and the female driver crashed into a fence. The officer was taken to Scottsdale Osborn with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police tell 3TV, "Right now we're very early in the investigation and it does not appear that drugs or alcohol are a factor but we are investigating that issue at this time.Helmet was very very important factor in this collision as far as keeping him from being seriously injured."

No word yet on if anyone will be facing any charges.
