PHOENIX - A man who worked as a waste collector was killed on the job.

Police say they responded to the area near the 4300 block of W. Monterrey Way just before 9 a.m. on Monday after receiving a call that someone was yelling for help.

Police and other rescue workers found 60-year-old Robert Amaral dead inside a waste collection truck. He reportedly worked for a private waste disposal company.

Detectives say Amaral apparently experienced a problem with the machinery. It appears he tried to work on the problem and became caught in the equipment.

Police say they are investigating this as an accidental death.
