Man hit, killed after he darts across street on way to workPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE -- Police are investigating a deadly early morning car-pedestrian wreck at 51st Avenue and Maryland.
The victim has been identified as Roy Jones.
It happened just after 5 a.m., when it was still dark.
According to police, Jones, 65, was at the bus stop and crossed the street, but was not in a crosswalk.
That's when he was hit and killed by a Nissan pickup truck.
Police said no criminal charges will be filed against Socorro Hermosillo-Adame, the driver of that truck.
Witnesses told investigators Adame had no time to react when Jones stepped into the truck's path. Police also said speed and impairment do not appear to have been factors. They are calling this a tragic accident.
Jones, who suffered a mental impaiement after he was run over by a car when he was a young man, had worked at Sanderson Ford for 47 years and was just a month away from retirement.
