6 Kids injured when pickup truck hits school van in Chandler

6 kids transported to hospitals

CHANDLER -- Six children were injured when a school van was hit by a pickup truck in Chandler Wednesday morning.

Police and emergency crews were on the scene of the accident that happened about 11 a.m. near Riggs Road and Sun Lakes Boulevard.

The van from Skyline Tech was preparing to make a left onto Sun Lakes Boulevard when a Ford F150 hit it, according to Detective Aaron Douglas with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Fourteen children were in the van, ranging in age from 5 to 7 years old.

Douglas said six of the kids received non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals. Emergency crews said they should all be OK.

A citation was issued to the school van driver.
