PHOENIX (AP) -- A Phoenix man accused of fatally shooting the boyfriend of an exotic dancer has pleaded not guilty.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 23-year-old Marshon Garth was arraigned Wednesday. His next scheduled court date is July 10.

Phoenix police say Garth met a 27-year-old exotic dancer at a residence on April 30 and she agreed to perform a sex act in exchange for money.

Afterward, the two allegedly had an argument over the payment and she called her boyfriend for help leaving the residence.

Police say Garth shot at both victims, causing their vehicle to run up on the curb and hit a tree.

The woman survived her injuries, but authorities say 23-year-old Michael Ray Gauer died at the scene.

Garth was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, aggravated assault and kidnapping.
